About Biofuel
Farm
Fuel Inc. currently grows mustard seed in Monterey, San Mateo, and
Santa Cruz counties on the central coast of California. Once the
mustard is grown to seed, it is harvested and crushed. The crushing
process extracts the oil of the seed, which is processed into biofuel.
This biofuel is used at local biodiesel stations.
Farm
Fuel Inc.'s participating farmers have planted over 100 acres of the
two mustard varieties on fallow ground to test the local production of
these cultivars of mustard, and to test the properties of a mustard
seed rotation. It is possible to produce approximately 5,000 to 10,000
gallons of biodiesel along with 50-100 tons of mustard seed meal. Over
the longer term it should be possible to produce millions of gallons of
mustard-oil biodiesel and hundreds of thousands of tons of mustard meal
soil amendments in California organically and sustainably. All this as
part of an integrated system where the mustard provides a variety of
valuable inputs into a sustainable farming system.
Biodiesel
is distributed locally for the Santa Cruz County market. Farm Fuel Inc.
encourages farmers to grow their own mustard seed for fuel. Please contact us for more information.
